the mysterious tale of
Endless Upteens

We don't really know anything about the Endless Upteens. We don't even know if they're called "Endless Upteens".

Here's the story:
I made a post somewhere on the internet saying "If anybody wants me to send them a copy of my album, just ask nicely and it's yours. If you want to send me something in return that would be great." It turned out to be a great idea because I heard some good records and ended up meeting some cool people. Anyway, one guy called Steve Mortiboys said: "I don't have any of my own music to send you, but I can send you a copy of this really great CD I have." so I said "Yes please." And it was just about the best thing I've ever heard. Or anyway, really damn good. So I pressed for more details

And he said:

"Let me tell you all I know about the endless up teens. Some guy came into where I work (I put home movies onto dvd for people, cassettes onto cd, that kind of thing) and said can you put this on a cd. The tape was six songs over and over again, and the guy told me that they were a friend of a friends band. They never released anything, and were just a mess around group. I decided to make myself a copy because I liked it so much. I think the band might just be called the up teens. I think the endless comes from the fact that the tape was the same six songs over and over. Also on the cassette was the marking "4:20" which is the date when everyone smokes weed here. And that really is all I know and all I can find."

I liked the record so much I played it for my friends and they all agreed that it was great. So I started forming a plan to put it out on actionpop!. Of course I can't get the permission of the band because I don't know who they are and the whole thing would be pretty illegal. But I thought long and hard about the moral arguments on either side and, the way I see it, as long as I sell it for exactly the production costs and don't make any money off it at all, and as long as I put some kind of disclaimer on the sleeve saying something like "This record is put out without the artist's permission. If you know anything about this band, please get in touch with us." things should be fine. And I can't imagine the Endless Upteens springing up and sueing me. They sound far too cool for that. I'd like to think that they'd be happy about it all and enjoy the strange and mysterious circumstances that led to the release of their recording on a highly obscure record label in Exeter, England. Or maybe I'll go to prison. It's a risk I think I'm willing to take.

So that's the story as it stands. Ideally, you will hear the record and like it so much that you play it for your friends and make copies for people and more bizarre things can happen. You can order the record by e-mailing me at hughjnoble@hotmail.com. Of course if you have any information about the Endless Upteens, please get in touch. Also, many thanks to Steve for introducing me to the band. Thanks Steve!
